THE EVERYTHING SHOWER

The everything shower… dreaded by some, necessary for many is a weekly-ish routine that seems to be a part of every high-maintenance girl’s self care routine.

How lovely it would be to be a girl with naturally tan glowing skin, and silky straight hair that can get wet, washed any and every day of the week.

Many of us, myself included, navigate life while managing hair that is frizzy, curly, and often subjected to color treatments and bleaching, coupled with fair skin that requires a regular scrub and glow. This combination means that maintaining a beauty routine involves a significant amount of regular effort and attention to ensure everything looks and feels its best.

So here’s my complete “Everything shower routine”

1.) PRE-OIL SCALP

I dont know which tiktoker got me into pre-oiling my scalp before washing but it has seriously made my hair so strong. Ive been loving the JVN oil. I rub it into my scalp and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before jumping into the shower.

2.) SCALP MASSAGE

This can be done with or without the scalp oil (above) but it’s definitely more effective with a pre-cleanse oil. I use a scalp massager but without one, your fingers will do the trick. It stimulates bloodflow to the scalp which is really important for healthy hair growth.

3.) SHAMPOO / CONDITIONER

This feels self explanatory but it’s important to find products that are natural oil based not full of alcohols, acids and harmful chemicals. I will say that my all time favorite brand for shampoo is Bondi Boost (available on Amazon). It’s a fantastic Australian brand, and from my personal experience Australian beauty is top notch especially when it comes to shower, and bath products.

4.) FULL BODY SCRUB

For this you can use an actual scrubbing soap, sometimes I do, but scrubbing soap or not a scrubbie is necessary. I first learned about these from my Korean friend in highschool (back in 2009 or so) and she showed me that in Korea girls scrub their skin raw for an all over glow and long-term youthful radiance. The best part is, these scrubbie gloves (amazon) are as cheap as they come and a single pair can last 6 months as long as you dry it after the shower so it doesn’t retain water.

5.) SHAVE (head to toe)

I quite literally shave every inch of my legs, underarms, bikini zone and occasionally toes ;)

Nothing really special here, just a venus razor and natural shaving foam.

6.) SKINCARE

Once I get out of the shower, I towel off and use a hair towel (VERY IMPORTANT) I do my face skincare routine right away before I apply body moisturizers.

I find that if I apply body moisturizers before my face routine I break out, even if I wash my hands with soap.

For a full skincare routine - I’ll make a post about it, but it would take WAY too long to recount here. Stay tuned for that

7.) MOISTURIZE

Next I rub down my body entirely with a good body oil or cream. I switch these up a lot so I can’t pick just one for this post but I make sure to get the product in every nook and cranny including between my toes. (Pro tip, put a thick cream on your feet and then pop on a pair of socks for the softest feet of your life!)

8.) LEAVE IN CONDITIONER

If you have ultra thin hair I would skip this step, but I have thick curly hair so I need a good leave in conditioner. For the past year I’ve been using OUAI (on amazon) I run a generous amount through my hair and let it sit a few minutes, then brush.

9.) HEAT PROTECTANTS & HAIR STYLING

I use the COLOR WOW Spray and a Dyson Airwrap to style my hair. With the COLOR WOW (amazon) you have to really soak / saturate the hair for it to work - it reduces frizz even in the most humid environments, I love it. For the AirWrap, I use the brush-head to dry my hair as straight as possible. Then, for a glam look I’ll use a round barrel to create a bend at the end of my hair or for a sleek look I’ll go over it with a flat iron (shocking I know.)

10.) SELF TANNER

I’ve posted a blog about my favorite self tanners, but the key is to apply whichever one you like after your skin and hair are fully done - you want to make sure that any moisturizer you’ve put on your body has fully absorbed for an even and deep application. Make sure you create little ‘claw hands’ as you apply over the backs of your hands so you dont have little creases around your knuckles and use a very light stoke over your elbows, knees, and feet so you don’t go orange!! With all self tan routines, it takes a little while to get into it, but practice makes perfect.

I also SOMETIMES dry brush - I wish I could say I did it every time but realistically I don’t. I love the feeling when I do though, its very good for skin elasticity and collagen production.
