DIOR HOLIDAY & NEW BEAUTY (AN OLD SCHOOL REVIEW)
Nothing says beauty blog like a classic, old school review with swatches of some new beauty products. Truly I miss the days of simple reviews so I thought why not make one of my own here.
As I’ve grown older (and hopefully wiser) I’ve found myself desiring a small, functional and beautiful makeup collection rather than an overflowing bunch of ‘trendy’ products that I barely use. With such a super-saturated market it can be hard to actually decipher what works and what’s paid / incentivized influencer hype. One brand that I continue to be impressed by is Dior Beauty. The quality and consistency has shone through above the rest year over year. There is not one single product I’ve tried from them that I haven’t loved. That’s no exaggeration.
So I decided to pick up two new products and see if the quality and joy would be there for them.
On the chopping block are two pieces of Dior Beauty. The Rouge Blush Colour & Glow in shade 100 ‘Diorissimo’ (part of the permanent collection) and the Diorshow 5 Couleurs in shade ‘Coral Flame.’
Colour & Glow (Bronzer and Highlight)
Name: Contour and Highlight Palette in Shade 100 ‘Diorissimo’
Price: $50 (USD)
Why I chose it and first impressions:
I’ve been looking for an all-in-one contour and highlight with a visible but natural finish. These fit my aesthetic perfectly. The contour shade is a nice neutral, neither cool nor warm toned. (I find warm toned just look like makeup and too cool looks dirty on my skin.) The highlight is a soft yet punchy champaign with a silver reflect. Both have a very skin like result when applied with a soft brush and diffused out and yet they are buildable if you desire extra dimension.
The packaging itself is fantastic. It features a large high quality mirror, almost no space wasted on the side of the two powder pans and a secure closure. It’s also not bulky on the top or bottom. (I truly cannot stand when makeup packaging is domed or ‘puffy’ for no reason it makes it much harder to transport and store at home.
Diorshow 5 Couleurs (Eyeshadow 5 Pan)
Name: Diorshow 5 Couleurs in shade ‘Coral Flame)
Price: $70 (USD)
Why I chose it and first impressions:
In many ways, I’ve felt that most beauty brands have forgotten about eyeshadow. With such a focus recently on liquid blushes, lip butters and oils, there hasn’t been a lot of innovation for the eyes. As a result, I’ve felt myself feeling bored with the makeup industry and putting it on. For a long time I’d been searching for a concise yet subtly colorful eyeshadow pallet that would be my (hopefully) holy grail product. I also haven’t wanted a huge eyeshadow palette since I never go through them any way so they’re a waste of product and space.
Enter the limited edition ‘Coral Flame’ palette from Dior. This truly ticks every box for me. The colors are a warm neutral with highs, mids and lows. Each color has a soft satin base with a very fine glitter overlay. When I tell you this glitter is fine, it’s truly the wet-look that is so hard to come by. Each of the 5 colors creates an ethereal look around the eyes and can be applied lightly (as I usually do) or built up with a denser brush.
The packaging itself to me is the only downside. I’m not sure why Dior Beauty is still putting in a little brush and sponge applicator for their eyeshadows. Neither feels like great quality and it wastes space in the packaging itself. If you can get past that, much like the contour / highlight the packaging is high quality, thin, with a good mirror and closure.
Conclusion:
Although both on the pricey side, these two new items in my collection tick nearly every box for me. If you’re interested in the eyeshadow I would recommend picking it up right away since it’s limited and I’ve never seen a soft sparkle like it in the Dior Beauty permanent eyeshadow line.
I would recommend both of these to anyone interested in leveling up and / or consolidating their makeup collection like me!
I hope this was a useful and fun mini-review! I loved going back in time emotionally to write it for you.
With all my love,
Isabelle <3
