24 WAYS TO GLOW UP IN 2024
You know the drill - new year, new goals. It’s always good to keep your sights and dreams set high and with these 24 easy ‘glow up’ tips you’ll be on your way in no time. From beauty, to lifestyle, mental health, physical wellness and more - I know I’ll be working on these all year long - we can do it together <3
Invest in silk scrunchies instead of thin hair ties. Unless you need a slick back look don’t tie your hair up too tightly.
Make sure you’re massaging your scalp with every wash for shiny strong healthy hair.
Clean your hair brushes with dish soap and then soak them in water with apple cider vinegar (once a week!). This will make sure you aren’t dragging dirt and oil onto clean hair.
Apply sunscreen every single day. Winter Summer I don’t care your skin needs it and the UV rays don’t care what season it is.
If you live in a dry climate (especially in the colder months) make sure you have a humidifier on in your bedroom at night. Hydration loss while you sleep can cause a lot of premature aging.
Invest in a GOOD perfume I cant tell you how much a cheap scent will downgrade your appearance especially when you’re meeting someone new. (First impressions really matter!)
If you have acne-prone skin don’t use an oil or silicone based foundation, stick to water based makeup.
Exfoliate your lips for a plump and smooth pout. You can use sugar and your lip balm combined and then sleep with a good lip mask every night (I love the Lawless Lip Mask, available on Amazon)
Practice good posture no matter where you are - watching TV walking your dog, whatever. It’s an important habit to build, and will also make a huge difference in later years if you get into it now.
Speaking of habits, stop touching your face like RIGHT NOW… Even freshly washed hands can be covered in pore-clogging bacteria.
Also, if you aren’t flossing at least once a day before bed you need to start immediately, I shouldn’t have to include that one… but you’d be surprised!
Make sure your hair color actually complements your natural undertones. (Pro tip: If you cant get a professional color analysis, look for celebrities with similar skin, eyes, and eyebrow coloring to you (having a similar facial shape is also a good to look for) and see which hair color suits them best - it will probably look good on you too.
Never dry your face with your body towel and I prefer to use paper towels because you know they’re bacteria free.
Also never dry your hair with your body towel either it can be heavy and damaging - use either a hair towel or an old tee shirt (I love my crown affair towel its so soft and dries my hair quickly)
Never store your beauty products in the shower, especially face masks or actives of any kind. The heat and humidity can break down the ingredients, making them a lot less effective if at all.
Don’t use waterproof mascara daily if you can avoid it. Waterproof makeup can really damage your eyelashes, skin, everything and requires a lot more tugging to remove at the end of the day.
Don’t use eyebrow or eyelash serum with synthetic prostaglandins in it… Unless you want to have life long-term orbital fat loss (around your eyes) which can really prematurely age the face and create a dark, tired look.
If you can’t tolerate whitening your teeth because you have a lot of sensitivity to whitening strips and gels (like me!) use a purple toothpaste instead. I love the original HiSmile, available on Amazon and it will make your teeth super white over time without the possible enamel damage
Go for a massage at least once a month - having proper blood flow throughout your muscles and body can improve everything from digestion to collagen production and muscle repair
Always sleep with a silk eye mask to protect the skin around your eyes - I prefer the wrap around kind like this one from Drowsy.
Wash your makeup brushes once a week - was a pain until I got this silicone pad on amazon. It makes the process a breeze and it’s really affordable.
Avoid burning synthetic fragranced candles around your house. The fragrance in them can disrupt your hormones and cause you to break out.
If you have an LED face mask, use it not only on your face but also on your hair / scalp. LED therapy has been shown to stimulate healthy hair growth even in people who have balding and thinning patches.
Tidy up with a timer - I dont know why it works but if I set a 5 or 10 minute timer I can get done 30 minutes to an hour of cleaning in that time… having a deadline makes you work quickly and efficiently and a tidy place is a tidy mind!
I hope these help <3 Let’s have the best new year together.
